Sharing the sunshine

Fleetwood hosts Outdoor Showcase at Bokarina Beach

If there’s one thing we enjoy even more than creating inspired outdoor spaces at Fleetwood Urban, it’s celebrating them. Especially when we get to do it alongside our peers and the industry professionals who helped make it all possible.

Recently, we were thrilled to host our latest Outdoor Showcase event at the spectacular new Bokarina Beach residential development overlooking Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast. In addition to breakfast and a guided tour of the 30-hectare community, the showcase featured presentations from several of our key project partners including Mark McMahon, Senior Development Manager at Stockland, David Gresik, Principal Asset Strategy Engineer from Sunshine Coast Council and David Henderson, Technical Director of Landscape Architecture at AECOM.

It was a fantastic morning for everyone involved as Earl Hicks, Project Manager at Fleetwood Urban, explained on the day.

“We’re always looking to share our best work and contribute positively to the industry,” he said. “Hosting site visits and showcases like this is such a great way to do it. We’re extremely proud of our role in the Bokarina Beach project which is why we wanted to invite key industry stakeholders to see for themselves and hear first-hand from our partners.”

Bokarina Beach is one of several high profile projects Fleetwood Urban has helped to deliver recently in South-East Queensland. “We’re doing some really great things here in Queensland right now,” said Earl Hicks.

“The projects are very creative and remarkably varied. That’s why it’s important to always remember the bigger picture and work as seamlessly as we can with the different partners. While, yes, we bring key skillsets to the project, so does everyone else. The secret is collaborating smoothly to create spaces that inspire people to get outside and love the outdoors. That’s our greatest passion, which is why we love to showcase the end results!”

About the Bokarina Beach project

Bokarina Beach is a premium residential community just to the north of Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. Stockland selected Fleetwood Urban to collaborate with their landscape architects, AECOM, on the design and construction of several key shade and access elements within the community’s expansive parklands, including a series of contemporary shelters and an environmentally-sensitive walkway allowing locals to explore the natural beauty of the pristine local wetlands. Now fully completed, the structures provide an extended backyard for residents of Bokarina Beach, including safe and easily-accessible areas for people to gather, explore and socialise.

Designing structures for sensitive sites. | Fleetwood Urban

“Life would be easy for designers if you could just ignore the cultural and environmental sensitivities of a site,” chuckles Fleetwood Creative & Technical Lead, Mark Jol. “You could just bulldoze everything and start from a blank page! But that’s not how we do things at Fleetwood.”

The outdoors. It used to be the only place Aussie kids wanted to spend their time. But the digital age has surrounded us with technology at every turn. Screen time is up and green time is down – and the risks are very real.
