The last time we wrote about The Canopy, it was still very much a work in progress. With 2020 winding down it was fantastic to return to Lane Cove Village, camera in hand, to see the custom-designed playground now fully completed and already becoming a popular social hub for the local community.
Nestled on Rosenthal Avenue, just moments from the urban retail bustle of Longueville Road, the brief from Lane Cove Council was to provide a safe and relaxing haven for families, parents and grandparents alike. Walking around The Canopy today, it’s clear our collaboration with Scott Carver landscape architects and ADCO Constructions has delivered! From early morning to after-school and evening, the laughter of children fills the air, with smiles and the leisurely flow of village life surrounding you in all directions.
Equally as satisfying for us has been comparing the original concept sketches with the final Play structures. Despite a number of logistical challenges – most notably the site’s very tight access constraints – the original design vision has been expertly realised, as you can see from the photos, below.
“Staying true to the design intent is always one of our biggest priorities at Fleetwood, especially when it comes to creating custom Play structures and experiences,” says Aidan Richardson, Project Manager for The Canopy. “As always, our role was to help navigate the obstacles that inevitably arose during the project, while remaining firmly focused on the bigger picture and design vision. The results speak for themselves, it’s been a great outcome for Council and the whole community!”
“The Canopy is not your average neighbourhood playground. The equipment selected was intended to be different, incorporating height, water, sand and timber unlike any other park in Lane Cove. It is designed to be a ’treat’ when visiting the village for children and parents.”
