2023: A year of highlights. A future of possibilities.

…and with that, 2023 is nearly over. It’s certainly been a busy year for our customers!

In the past 12 months, our team has been helping to deliver multiple complex public domain projects across Queensland, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and New South Wales – a new record for the business.

It's also been particularly pleasing to see more and more of these projects centred in vibrant regional communities such as Shepparton and Horsham in Victoria, Cooroy in Queensland and Glen Innes in Northern NSW.

From a business perspective, 2023 has seen two significant milestones for Fleetwood Urban with the opening of our state-of-the-art pre-production facility in Geelong and a new head office at Norwest Quays in Sydney. These are both important operational changes that provide a robust platform to scale our team, and grow our capabilities for clients in 2024 and beyond. We’re excited about the possibilities they present.

As Directors, people often ask us: ‘what are your favourite projects?’ It’s a hard question to answer, as there are always so many highlights. What we can say is that it’s been hugely satisfying to see several iconic projects reach completion in 2023 after years of dedication. These are undoubtedly headlined by the amazing new Blacktown Excellence Sports & Technology Hub (BEST) in western Sydney and our recently completed community boardwalk for John Holland and the NSW Government as part of WestConnex, the largest infrastructure project in Australian history.

Back in March, we were also thrilled to see the official opening of Fleetwood’s first-ever community swing bridge at Pyes Creek in Cherrybrook, which has quickly become a spectacular success for Hornsby Shire Council and the local community at Cherrybrook. We hope it’s the first of many!

Just finally, it would be remiss not to mention that 2023 has been – by some margin – the ‘winningest’ year ever for Fleetwood projects. Our clients and design partners have received more than 25 industry accolades (the majority from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, AILA) for projects where Fleetwood had direct involvement. It’s quite a humbling figure and, as always, we are hugely grateful for the opportunity to work on such inspirational community projects.

On behalf of everyone here at Fleetwood, thank you for your support in 2023. We wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable holiday period, and every success for the upcoming year.

See you in 2024.

Warm regards,

Ian & Roger Joyce

Directors

Designing structures for sensitive sites. | Fleetwood Urban
By Lien Lam 22 Nov, 2023
“Life would be easy for designers if you could just ignore the cultural and environmental sensitivities of a site,” chuckles Fleetwood Creative & Technical Lead, Mark Jol. “You could just bulldoze everything and start from a blank page! But that’s not how we do things at Fleetwood.”
Turning screen time into green time. | Fleetwood Urban
By Lien Lam 31 Oct, 2023
The outdoors. It used to be the only place Aussie kids wanted to spend their time. But the digital age has surrounded us with technology at every turn. Screen time is up and green time is down – and the risks are very real.
Creating outdoor structures Australians love. | Fleetwood Urban
By Lien Lam 23 Oct, 2023
Each year, countless outdoor structures are built across the country – and then sit underutilised. One of the most common reasons why is that they simply fail to capture the imagination of local communities. So, what are some of the keys to creating ‘irresistible’ outdoor structures your community will love and use for years to come?
